Occupational therapy (OT) is the use
of assessment and intervention to develop, recover, or maintain the meaningful
activities, or occupations, of individuals, groups, or communities. It is an
allied health profession performed by occupational therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA). Occupational therapies often work with people with mental health
problems, disabilities, injuries, or impairments.
The Occupational Therapy Association defines an occupational therapy as someone who "helps people
across their lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do
through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common
occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities
to participate fully in school and social situations, injury rehabilitation,
and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive
changes.
a supporter of the National Society
for the Promotion of Occupational Therapy, now the American Occupational
Therapy Association, sought to promote the ideas that occupation is a basic
human need, and that occupation is therapeutic. From his statements came some
of the basic assumptions of occupational therapy, which include:
- Occupation has a positive effect on health and well-being.
- Occupation creates structure and organizes time.
- Occupation brings meaning to life, culturally and personally.
- Occupations are individual. People value different occupations.
- These assumptions have been developed over time and are the basis of the values that underpin the Codes of Ethics issued by the national associations. The relevance of occupation to health and well-being remains the central theme.

Occupational Therapists (OTs) are
health care professionals who utilize evidence-based practice, research,
scientific evidence, and a holistic perspective to promote independence,
meaningful occupations, and the patient's functional ability to achieve daily
routines/roles of choice. Occupational therapists in East Delhi ensure their patient-oriented interventions are
effective. Occupational Therapists have background training about psychological, physical,
emotional, and social makeup.
Occupational Therapists also have immense training to treat the
whole body including neurological principles, anatomy/physiological concepts,
and psychological perspectives. They support individuals across their lifespan
to fulfill meaningful activities, known as occupations, individually by using
therapeutic interventions.
Occupational therapists in East Delhi work in a variety of
fields such as pediatrics, orthopedics, neurology, or geriatrics. The main
approach of occupational therapy is to assist individuals regaining skills, as
well as increasing their abilities and decreasing limitations of any kind of disability.
Occupational Therapists evaluate the individual as well
as their home and other close environments, and recommend adaptive equipment
and training in its use, guidance, and education for family members and
caregivers. Together they determine the patient’s individual goals.
Occupational Therapists customize each intervention to
improve a person’s ability to perform daily life activities and to reach his or
her goals. Occupational Therapists perform outcomes measures to evaluate the person’s abilities and
to ensure there is progress toward the goals. This outcome evaluation also
helps the therapist to understand if an intervention plan must be changed.
Typically, occupational therapists are university-educated professionals and must pass a licensing exam to practice. Occupational therapists often work closely with professionals in physical therapy, speech therapy, audiology, nursing, social work, clinical psychology, medicine, and assistive technology.
